Mainland Spain and its associated islands have been and remain the No 1 destination for people looking to enjoy the benefits of a flight time of less than 4 hours from the UK and Ireland, a superb climate and a blend of culture which mixes luxurious natural landscape, endless golden sandy beaches, a healthy diet and a relaxed lifestyle.
This is mirrored by the number of people now investing in Spain for both long term lifestyle and a means of future financial investment. The traditional Spanish Costas remain popular and now there is a growing trend towards exploring more and more of the Spanish Iberian peninsular which is reflected in both buying and investing trends. Possibilities have opened up across the whole spectrum of available property, with options ranging from locations in Spain’s major cultural cities, lesser known locations including Northern Spain and less explored and untouched sandy beach resorts which offer excellent potential in both investment and longer term lifestyle plans.
Spain is a diverse country in both climate and culture
Northern Spain offers spectacular scenery from lush green meadows to snow-capped mountains. The climate benefits from cooler summers and milder winters than the rest of Spain, typically 3 to 5 deg. warmer than the southern coast of England.
Major cities include Oviedo, capital of Asturias, a region of natural beauty, with mountains, lakes and valleys, Pamplona, capital of Navarre, is perhaps best known for its festival, 'San Fermines', which runs from 5th to 16th July. Apart from the non-stop partying, the 'highlight' is when bulls are left to charge around the old town, whilst the brave (or foolish!) crowds run in front. San Sebastían is a relaxed resort town popular with Spanish holidaymakers. It has a stunning beach, 'La Concha', beautiful views of which can be seen from Monte Urgull and Monte Igueldo. The nightlife in San Sebastían is good and goes on well into the morning.
Central Spain offers a more uniform climate, with temperatures rising sharply in the long summer months and generally low rainfall, though winter snow can be heavy on the Sierras. Sunshine levels average 5 hours per day in winter and 12 hours per day in summer. Central Spain is an area filled with historic towns, medieval monuments and ancient castles. It is home of some of the most famous bodegas, and wine growing regions, and of course Madrid, the artistic and cultural capital of Spain, a city which never sleeps, and is becoming more and more, an attractive weekend break destination.
Andalucia has the longest coastline of any of Spain's regions. This feature, coupled with a hot climate, has made Andalucia an extremely popular tourist destination. However, there is much more to this beautiful region than just the Costa del Sol and the jet-set town of Marbella. Málaga, probably the first city encountered by foreign visitors to this region, is home to a large and modern international airport. The town itself is always very busy and is packed with shops, restaurants and cafés. Seville is home to Europe's second largest cathedral, the 'Santa María de la Sede', and to the Moorish splendours of the Alcazar fortress and the Giralda bell tower. A two hour train journey from Seville is Córdoba, an interesting and historically important town. It is in Granada, however, that the most stunning Moorish architecture is to be found. The world famous Alhambra Palace is quite simply breathtaking, and the gardens of Generalife provide an oasis of tranquility. The town itself is very pleasant and always full of students because of the university.
